Oatmeal and POM Wonderful 100% Pomegranate Juice

Hello everyone!  Hope you all enjoying your day!  Today’s post is about oatmeal, and also POM Wonderful 100% Pomegranate Juice!

I decided to have oatmeal last night for dessert, and decided to add a banana to it even though it wasn’t very ripe yet.

And from another angle:

I usually like this combo, but it tasted kind of “off” since the banana wasn’t all that ripe, and therefore not that sweet.

So I added some cinnamon for some extra flavor.

After I took this picture, I stirred the cinnamon into the oatmeal, but it still didn’t taste all that great, which is kind of weird since usually I love this combo.

So….

I decided to add some POM Wonderful 100% Pomegranate Juice!  I was lucky enough to receive samples of POM juice from Diana of POM Wonderful!  Thanks, Diana!  (Full product review of the POM juice to come later)

First, I had to try the juice.  I tried a tiny sip and it was pretty tart, but I decided to add it to my oatmeal anyway.  I added about two big splashes of POM juice and then stirred it into the oatmeal.

Now, I know this is not the most attractive picture.  I thought adding the POM juice would turn the oatmeal a beautiful shade of pink, but it did not.  At first, I didn’t know why.  But then I figured that it was because I had already stirred the cinnamon into the oatmeal, which made it a light shade of brown, and then combined with the POM juice, it turned a darker shade of brown.  But still, you can kind of see the color of the POM juice around the outside of the oatmeal.

Anyway, I tried the oatmeal, and I guess I added too much POM juice, because it was pretty tart and a bit too soupy.  So I added some ice cream on top, to add more sweetness and some creaminess to thicken up the texture a little.

It doesn’t look so bad now, right?  Here’s another picture, from a different angle.

I stirred the ice cream into the oatmeal and it added a tiny bit of creaminess.  As for taste?  It definitely helped the oatmeal not taste so tart anymore, although you could definitely still taste the POM juice.  I ate all of the oatmeal, but halfway through, my stomach started hurting a little.  I think it’s because I’m really not used to such tart flavors.  But not to worry, after I ate 5 crackers my stomach felt much better.

So that was the oatmeal I ate for dessert last night.  It was good, but next time I would add less POM juice.  I think the POM juice tastes good, it’s just that I think the tartness is an acquired taste.  I have more POM juice left and am excited to try it diluted with water or in smoothies.

What is your favorite way to drink POM Wonderful juice, or favorite recipe to use it in?

wow, ice cream and POM in oatmeal? what a fab idea!
I think POm would also work nicely in marinades…sort of like red wine. it’ll go perfectly with a nice steak or pork loin or maybe even tofu?

You really like cinnamon, don’t you? A friend just told me that cinnamon is supposed to be really good for lowering blood sugar. Which I need to do.

And.. I wish I liked oatmeal more… ice cream might do the trick! I love clementines too.

I like to drink it straight, but the POMtini sounds mighty fine for this weekend! I mixed a little into some protein bars I made, too, although the pom flavor doesn’t really come through.
