Cilantro – Love it or hate it?
I’m in the hate it camp – I just can’t stand cilantro! I think maybe it’s because it just has such a strong taste/flavor! Usually I can tell right away when something has cilantro in it, and that just ruins the whole meal for me. But sometimes I can’t really tell…
Case in point:

Campbell's Select Harvest Light Savory Chicken with Vegetables
I loved this soup when I first tried it! It actually has a bit of a kick to it, which you probably wouldn’t know from the name of the soup. But if you look at the ingredients list, it has roasted poblano chili peppers in it, so there you go.

It also contains cilantro. Now this is listed towards the end of the list, so it’s not as prominent as the other ingredients.
I had no idea it had cilantro in it until I saw it on the ingredients list. And now that I know, I kind of don’t like the soup as much – not because it’s not good, but just because I’m now aware of the fact it has cilantro in it and I think maybe I can taste it now. Does that make sense?
Anyway, this soup is actually pretty good. It’s a nice soup to eat when you are feeling sick or congested and want something a bit more flavorful than chicken noodle soup. Just keep in mind that it doesn’t actually have noodles in it, just chicken and vegetables.
I added saltine crackers to the soup for more texture, which is nice to add when you aren’t feeling that well but want a soup that seems a bit more filling.

If you are feeling well and just eating the soup because you like it, I would recommend adding sauteed spinach if you want to make it more filling and add more texture. The sauteed spinach goes perfectly with this soup! Try it!
Case in point 2:

Trader Joe's Chile Lime Chicken Burgers
I loved these chicken burgers the first time I tried them! They have such a nice flavor! But then I noticed on the ingredients list that it contained cilantro. D’oh!

And then when I tried it again I didn’t like it as much, though I didn’t hate it.

Anyway, the chile lime chicken burgers taste good in a sandwich:

and as part of a meal with rice and vegetables:

It would probably also taste really good as a salad topping.
I still like the chicken burgers, just now when I eat them I’m like, hmmm…it has cilantro in it, I think I can taste it – or maybe I’m just imagining that I taste the cilantro since I’m now aware of it. Haha, anyway, I was still able to enjoy the chicken burgers, so that’s good! But if the cilantro had been really prominent and I had tasted it right away, I wouldn’t have liked it at all!
What about you – do you love or hate cilantro?
Have a nice day, everyone!

I love cilantro… mostly in homemade salsa.
I also really love saltines in soup. It totally reminds me of my childhood b/c my mom always kept a box of saltines in the pantry. I added a some to my vegetable soup just last night actually and was like why am I adding these empty calories to my soup and then after the first bite I realized oooh, THAT’s why! Because it’s awesome!!!!!
